CUVR Sponsors Exciting After-school Educational Fun
Upper Merion, PA - The Cluster for Unmanned Vehicles and Robotics has teamed with ‘Professor Bob’s Hands-On Science’ to provide students with access to real life
technology experiences through exciting hands-on science experiments.  Professor Bob has been amazing local elementary school young scientists with ‘PHun’ science experiences for over 19 years, and with funding from CUVR, he is now introducing them to the world of STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) through the use of helicopters, airplanes, rovers, rockets and robots.  The first classes, started in January 2013, are continuing through May 2013.  With hands-on activities, the junior scientists (1-4 graders) learned basic electronic circuitry and how to use a volt-ohm meter.  As a result of CUVR’s involvement, Professor Bob was able to procure R/C helicopters for each one of the future scientists.  Each one received hands-on flying experience, and quickly learned the subtle art of helicopter remote control.  With no permanent damage to the airships, the future avionics engineers learned from their mistakes and had PHun doing it!  After one successful flight, one of the young pilots was heard to say, “This is the best science class – EVER!”
The CUVR / Professor Bob relationship will continue to expand.  In addition to the After-school classes, there are week long Summer Camps scheduled for the month of August.

The Summer Camps will not only include elementary level classes but, will also include classes for middle school students.  The middle school curriculum is planned to include programming as well as more advanced Engineering and Technology.  Many of the activities will prepare students for participation in TSA (Technology Students Association), Science Olympiad, FIRST robotics, and Sea-Perch competitions.
In summarizing Professor Bob said, “Thank goodness I finally found an industry partner with the forward thinking mindset to invest in our future scientists and engineers. The ‘up-side’ is positively amazing. I can’t wait to see what inventions and advancements these young budding minds come up with, as they move into industry.  This is going to be a very exciting time to be alive!”
